Hook, Shot, and Sinker

Hi friends!

Last week, we finished the puzzle options for the Dark Cave. While there’s plenty left to do in that environment, puzzle design has turned to the next environment…the Water Cave! And what better tool to brave a watery zone than a hookshot? That’s right, a hookshot has been added to Vidar! This tool will allow you to cross gaps you otherwise couldn’t. It’s such a fun tool that I wanted to give the player a chance to try it in various forms, so its first use is actually with familiar dark cave mechanics – lights, mirrors, all that jazz. Take a look:

The hookshot can do a little more than what’s demonstrated here, but you’ll have to find out what those things are as you explore the third environment in Vidar.

In addition to adding this new tool and puzzle, the demo for Playcrafting is ready to go (barring any last minute bug fixes). A fun cutscene has been added to that demo between Etel and Dorottya in order to get the quest to go to the Wolf Cave, and Etel himself will accompany you to explain some of the more complicated mechanics down there. Bugs in the Dark Cave puzzles have been unbugged – there was a lot of clean up to do here, and one more pass is probably warranted to triple check everything.

Puzzle Changes

  • Added the hookshot: after getting the hookshot from the chest, pressing A will activate it. Currently, walls in the Dark Cave will block the hookshot, as well as all Dark Cave puzzle elements (torches, barrels, doors, mirrors, etc.). The hookshot can only latch onto wooden pillars. The hookshot can be obtained in a cart at the end of the Dark Cave.

  • Fixed a bug in Puzzle 51, option 2 where the pillar was not moveable
  • Fixed a bug in Puzzle 51, option 2 that made it impossible to complete
  • Fixed a bug in Puzzle 51, option 3 where the holes did not spawn correctly
  • Switches, doors, and mirrors in Puzzle 51, option 3 are correctly color coded
  • Added a pillar to Puzzle 51, option 4
  • Fixed a bug in Puzzle 51, option 5 that made it impossible to complete
  • Removed some holes in Puzzle 51, option 6 to make it easier
  • The red switch in Puzzle 51, option 9 now properly resets
  • Fixed a bug in Puzzle 52, option 2 that made it impossible to complete
  • The yellow pull switch in Puzzle 52, option 3 now rotates the correct mirror
  • Removed an extraneous lantern in Puzzle 48, option 9
  • Wolves in Puzzles 47, 48, 51, 52, 54, and 55 now move correctly
  • Options 0, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 of Puzzle 48 now have switches that will freeze all torches/lanterns to “on” at the end of the puzzle
  • Fixed a bug where if a wolf died by falling at a particular lightbridge, that bridge could no longer be used to kill other wolves
  • Moveable mirrors now correctly reset to their original spawning position if they are on a lightbridge when it goes off
  • Moveable mirrors now correctly reset to their original spawning position when a puzzle is reset (either by falling or by using the menu option)
  • The first time the player enters a puzzle with a moveable mirror, a short tutorial will appear
  • Fixed a bug where blue-based torches could turn off
  • Once a wolf is killed it will no longer howl forever
